The Employers Liability Exclusion to the CGL Policy

There are numerous exclusions to the coverage provided to businesses in a comprehensive general liability or CGL policy. Exclusion E -- Employers Liability -- in the standard form CGL policy results in a lack of coverage under the CGL policy for liability arising from an injury to an employee.

Aviation Hull Insurance

Aviation hull insurance is a form of property insurance in which the property is an aircraft. Loss of value and loss of use of aircraft specified in the policy normally is covered. Aviation hull insurance may be the subject of a separate policy or it may be included within a policy that also provides the aircraft owner with coverage for liability to third parties arising from an accident involving the aircraft.

The Meaning of Reinsurance

Reinsurance is the process by which an insurance company shares the risk that it assumes when it issues an insurance policy. For example, an insurance company that issues a $1 million life insurance policy may reinsure or have other insurers assume $900,000 of the risk. The insurance company issuing the policy thus "cedes" most of the risk to one or more reinsurers.

The Appraisal Clause in Insurance Policies

Fire insurance and many other kinds of insurance policies contain appraisal clauses. Such clauses are included in form fire insurance policies required by state insurance regulators and are included in various other policy forms covering losses to property.

The Equitable Right of Subrogation

Subrogation is an equitable right to seek recovery of losses paid by the plaintiff for another in an action against the party that caused the losses. In insurance law, subrogation refers to the right of the insurer to seek compensation for its payments to its insured by filing an action against the person that caused the damages to the insured.
